So the wait for Ford’s much talked about compact SUV comes to an end today. At its Delhi launch, Ford launched its latest addition- Ford EcoSport at an enticing price of Rs 5.59 lakh.

Ford EcoSport has been one of the most talked about cars this year. With its prelaunch campaign- Discover your city making news for the right reasons, its finally the SUV itself that hitting the headlines. The compact SUV has been launched amidst fanfare befitting its status. The all new EcoSport has been launched in three engine variants and 4 trim levels namely- Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium (O).

The car comes packed with its unique 1.0 Liter Ecoboost engine which promises to do justice to all the claims made by the company about its new compact SUV. The very special small three-cylinder engine is one of its kind that will enable EcoSport to have greater fuel efficiency, lower carbon emission and a greater boot space. The engine will be capable of churning 125PS power and 170Nm torque. The SUV is, from today, available in three engine variants including the 1.5liter petrol engine and 1.5 liter turbo diesel engine. Both these are well performing variants with capacity of 112 PS and 91 PS respectively. These engines come with direct injection system that enables EcoSport to enjoy greater efficiency of combustion. Also, the SUV promises more combustion per cycle in these engines which will further improve the SUV’s fuel output.

Ford EcoSport will also come powered with a unique cooling and exhaust system. It will ensure that the exhaust temperature remains low along with maintaining optimum fuel to air ratio even at high speeds. The turbo charger will allow EcoSport to enjoy a greater torque even at lower displacement levels. The petrol variant, even though a conventional engine comes with tweaking that will increase the SUV’s fuel efficiency by about 20% and lower its carbon emission by up to 15%.  All of these variants will be available with a choice of six speed manual (petrol and diesel variants) or automatic (petrol variant only) transmission system.

Among the several other firsts, EcoSport also features a two stage variable oil pump which will lower the friction and heat development in the crank shaft at all times, lowering the fuel consumption of the SUV. Besides a powerful under the hood system, Ford EcoSport comes with voice command mechanism that has been developed in collaboration with Microsoft. This technology will allow users to have handless and wireless access to their phone and music at all times without compromising the safety. In terms of security quotient, EcoSport fares well too. The SUV comes with six airbags and an Emergency Assistance system which greatly increase the security level in the SUV.

At a starting price of Rs 5.59 lakh (Ex-Showroom Delhi), EcoSport will be available in three variants, four trim levels, seven colors and a choice of 38 accessories. Besides these features, the SUV will also come with high end features such as push button start, rear parking assistance, USB and AUX connectivity, adjustable interior lighting etc.

The compact SUV falls in the sub 4m Category and hence, easily enjoys the competitive pricing. It will be manufactured at the company’s Chennai facility. According to Mr. Joginder Singh, MD Ford India, utility vehicles are the fastest growing segment of automotive sector currently with having recorded >250% increase between 2005 and 2012. The segment is set to register a further approximate 50% increase in the coming decade. As such, Ford EcoSport can easily be anticipated to do well and perhaps, set a new trend.
