Summer 2013 – Season of luxury hatchbacks
We mentioned previously how luxury cars have suffered the least in the turmoil of Indian automotive industry. Cushioned from the topsy turvy of the market, the luxury automobile manufacturers have not seen major fluctuations in their sale figures. To tap further from the ongoing boom for them, luxury automotive manufacturers have planned several launches for Indian market. What is noticeable is that several of these new releases will be hatchbacks, indicating shifting trend of luxury car makers towards hatchbacks instead of sedans.
According to the current news, the next year and a half will see a bunch of hatchbacks being launched in India. All the top league performers of luxury cars’ segments such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW will be jumping the hatchback bandwagon. Among the anticipated releases this summer, several have bene talked about for a long time now. Likes of Mercedes Benz A class is set for May, 2013 release in Indian market. Complete with an action packed marketing strategy allowing one lucky winner of a contest to own the luxury hatchback for a year, Mercedes-Benz will be first one to come forth with its luxury hatchback. Shortly behind the A class will be the Mercedes Benz B class. The car will be powered with 1.8 liter turbo diesel engine or petrol variant with 108 bhp and 260Nm torque capacity. Both these series, by all means, look suitable for Indian roads with their small size and powerful engine.
BMW doesn’t lag behind too much either. Following its slow start in first quarter of 2013, the luxury cars’ company hopes to make a comeback with its 1 series set to be launched in September, 2013. All the models, like most of BMW’s models for Indian market now, shall be assembled at company’s Chennai plant using CKD route. Both petrol and diesel variants of the series will be launched soon.
Other luxury automobile manufacturers follow suit with Audi planning to launch its hatchback, Audi A3 sometime towards end of 2013 and Volvo V40 to be launched in June, 2013.
All these hatchbacks are set to reach Indian market during 2013, with most of them being launched this summer. They offer everything these luxury cars’ companies offer in their top level sedans- comfort, style, performance and price, too. Most of these models lie in price range of Rs 20-30 lakh, considerably higher than price for an ordinary hatchback.
