Maruti Suzuki’s recent sales reports for Swift showed that they had crossed a major landmark with its best-selling ace model – Swift. In order to commemorate the global success of selling over 30 lakh units of Swift after eight years of presence in the global market, Maruti Suzuki has launched the limited edition Swift under the name Swift Star. The all new limited edition Swift Star showcases purely cosmetic features and updates.
The varied changes and updates are noticeable on both the interiors as well as the exteriors. Interior gets many enhancements such as the Double Din music system unit with Bluetooth functionality, faux leather seat covers, twin door speakers (both in front), a steering wheel cover and the same designer floor mats. All the while, the exterior changes have been limited only to a roof mounted spoiler.

The ‘Star’ Edition of Maruti Swift looks promising!

This new Limited Edition Swift Star will be available in both the diesel and petrol engine options. The DDiS diesel motor will be a 1.3-litre oil burner producing 74 bhp and 190Nm of torque whereas the K-series petrol engine will be a 1.2-litre mill churning out 85bhp and 114Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. One can see that under the hood, the configurations remain the same.

The Maruti Suzuki’s Swift has been one of the best-selling models since it was launched in globally in 2004. The Suzuki Swift was first introduced in India in 2005 and 6 years later it received a major facelift in 2011. Out of 30 lakh units sold, Maruti Suzuki reports 13 per cent were sold in Japan, 23 per cent in Europe and a substantial but not surprising 45 per cent in India.

This limited edition Swift Star along with the extra accessories will be available for Rs 30,000 over the price of the regular variant. The accessories cost Rs 21,000 and the rest of the amount will be given out as a benefit to the customer. However, Maruti Swift Star will be available with the base and middle trim models (L and V) only.
The Swift comes with a starting price of Rs. 4.44 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) and is headlong into the competition with the likes of Hyundai i20, Chevrolet Sail U-VA and Volkswagen Polo. But the ‘limited edition’ tag with the promise of immediate delivery from the company is expected to attract more customers.

I find solace in appreciating the beauty of automobiles. Bikes aren't my cup of tea, however there are few masterpieces that I would love to own one day. I dream of driving the Volvo FH16 750 someday. I am also into more heavy stuff like, astronomy, astrophysics (minus the number crunching).
