Mercedes GL-Class may get a May launch
In what can be called as confirmed news, luxury car maker- Mercedes Benz is set to launch its all new GL class in India this May. Following the rumors circulating the market about various models being tested in India, finally, the luxury models will soon reach Indian markets following a release that could come as soon as May, 2013.
Among the launches, SUVs are expected to be the first models to be released. All the models will further be made available through CBU route. It is believed that their manufacturing will be done at Mercedes’ Chakan manufacturing plant, spiking hope for reduced cost in future.
The new GL class SUV GL 350 will be a suitably mean model. True to the company’s reputation, it can be expected to be a combination of comfort and performance. It is expected to have an AMG sport pack adding to distinctness of the SUV. A great design on front bumper and additional trim bits on the exterior will give the SUV a sporty yet chic look. Wheel arches with 21 inch alloys will complete the picture of a commendable exterior.
The new GL model GL350 is expected to be powered with a 2987 cc turbo common rail diesel engine with 255 bhp power capacity. The 3.0 liter, four valve direct injection and turbocharged oil burner shall be able to conjure a torque of 620Nm, transmitted through a 7 speed G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The internal comfort will be taken a notch higher with electrically assisted steering, electric parking brake and comfort features such as audio system from Bang and Olufsen ( that would give 1200 W output from a total of 14 speakers!)
The new model SUV is expected to be about 90 kg lighter than the current model, making it about 20 percent more fuel efficient than its predecessors. The performance characters of the new GL class seem nothing but good. Combined with company’s reputation, all in all, this comes as good news for luxury car lovers, especially loyal fans of Mercedes Benz.
