Toyota cars sales down in December, new year a ray of hope
INDIA: TKM is the subsidiary of Japan based Toyota Motor Corporation. Kirloskar Group has joined with this group as a minor owner. The company is responsible not only for manufacture but also for sale of cars in the country. This company occupies 4th position in the Indian automobile market after companies like Maruti, Hyundai and Mahindra. The company plays a significant role in the Indian automobile sector and has also generated a lot of employment opportunities in the country. It has extensive dealer network for selling its cars.
A decline of 12.21 percent was reported by Toyota Kirloskar in its overall sales in the month of December’13 reaching 12,622 units. In previous year’s corresponding months, 14,378 units were sold by the company.
The company is registering continuous decline in the number of units sold. As far as domestic market sales is considered, only 10, 648 units were sold by the company from 12, 071 units in the year before thereby registering a decline of 11.78%. In this time period, 1,974 Etios units were also exported by the company.
Company facing tough times
According to official sources, the consumer sentiments are not reflecting any signs of change or improvement as of now. In the month that has just completed, the company has worked hard for inventory control both at the company as well as dealers level. This decline in the number of units being sold by the company in the domestic market is a huge setback for the automobile sector of the country. It may force the company to take a tough stand in this field or go for high level strategies to ensure a reasonable turnaround of the company registering reasonable sales. The sector is waiting for the company to take decisions in this regard for a better future.
